It’s hard to know the chain reaction that a selfless act of kindness can set off.
When Brendan Flaherty desperately needed a kidney, his friend Philip Cameli stepped in to help. He wanted to donate his kidney to Flaherty but unfortunately was not a match.
As luck would have it, Kimberly Cooper, who was a complete stranger, decided to sign up at the hospital to donate a kidney and was a perfect match for Flaherty.
Inspired by her selfless act, Cameli decided that he still wanted to donate his kidney and found a match in Clotilde Ruiz. Ruiz’s daughter was so moved that a stranger saved her mother, that she donated her kidney too.
This pattern continued until six people donated their kidney’s to strangers in need at Chicago’s Northwestern Hospital. All six were unable to be a match for their loved ones, but thanks to the actions of one selfless individual, they were still able to help someone desperately in need.
Even if it’s not something as major as donating a kidney, a simple act of kindness can set off an endless chain of good. Do something nice for a stranger today and #makeadifference.
